In the summer of 2020, Shelby Sharp approached me to design a logo for her blossoming online storefront, Blush and Bashful Decor. As a big fan of the movie Steel Magnolias, Shelby wanted a logo that reflected the film and the iconic quote that became her shop’s namesake.

The style of the logo was designed to be organic and floral, focusing on the southern magnolia as a representative of the film’s southern setting. After illustrating the flowers, I created a handful of possible logo arrangements, often framing the shop’s name with the flowers themselves, and working up a few additional illustrations.

The book and sewing machine illustrations showcased the nerdy and crafty nature of Shelby’s shop. While neither illustration was ultimately chosen for the logo, Shelby loved the sewing machine so much that she requested to use it as an alternative graphic in combination with the logo.

Clearly, a pink color palette was a necessity for the logo and illustration. In the end, I included a few secondary yellows and tertiary blues to help accent the pink and provide more options for future Blush and Bashful Decor branding.
